Harvey Glance: Training for Track and Field: Sprints, Hurdles and Relays Posted: 14 Dec 2009 09:21 AM PST By the time the Olympics rolled into my backyard in Montreal 1976, Harvey Glance was the man to beat. After all, he set the WR twice for the 100 meters (a 9.9 hand time) By then, Valeri Borzov was no longer a force to be reckon with, but I still didn't count him out to repeat as a double gold medallist in the 100 meters. Harvey Glance came fourth in the open 100m, but won a gold medal in the 4×100 meter team for USA as their lead-off leg. Borzov won the bronze. He was a member of the boycotted 1980 Olympic Team, and his resume includes Gold medals from the 1985 World Cup, 1986 Goodwill Games Gold, and the 1987 World Championships in the 4×100 meter relay. Longevity in sprinters are rare, so his 12 plus years as a world class athlete is impressive. Today, Harvey Glance is the head coach at the University of Alabama. His new DVD Training for Track and Field: Sprints, Hurdles and Relays is available on Amazon. Copyright © 2009 by Speedendurance.com. All Rights Reserved. |
