At this point in the holiday season, I like to schedule a small, elegant nervous breakdown. This is just about the time when I realize that I don't have all the gifts I need, or the money to buy them with, or any of the most basic skills required to make them myself. Also, I decide, I hate the holidays and will cancel them the very second I'm in charge of the world.

How to Manage Holiday Stress
This is perhaps not the most festive yuletide attitude, but at least I have company. Several people have contacted me recently to say that they would like to reschedule Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa for someone else's house, with someone else's family in attendance. One of my friends even suggested we all run away from home. She is 35.

Reader Susan, for the win: "I like to whip up a huge batch of fudge and give pieces to all the neighbors, my kids' teachers, etc. I just get some inexpensive gift tins, make a ton of fudge in a day, and I have several gifts out of the way for not too much money." Susan also gets credit for not eating all the fudge herself, which is one of my favorite ways to beat stress.

Exercising for Stress Relief
I have already spent at least twice as much time waiting in line at stores this month as I have at the gym. At least. Oh, wait. Our math experts tell me that two times zero is still zero. Well, you get the idea. Exercise: It's important!
