2010 USATF National Podium Education Project – December 1

When: Wednesday, December 1, 2010, 8:00am- 6:15pm prior to the start of the USATF Annual Meeting, December 1-5.

Where: Virginia Beach, Virginia

What is it: The Podium Education Project, PEP, is an annual High Performance Coaches Symposium which brings elite coaches and sport scientists together to review, and present some of the most cutting edge methodology and coaching practices in the world. It is designed to provide an exchange of knowledge between scientists, elite coaches of national team athletes, and podium level coaches who have achieved the status of developing a medal-winning athlete at the World Championships or Olympic level.

2010 Program: The theme for the 2010 PEP is "Limiting Factors to Performance." The 2010 PEP will feature world renowned Spanish sport scientist, Inigo Mujika. With an emphasis on preparation for the 2011 World Champs and 2012 Olympics, Inigo will be speaking on his specialty, "Tapering and Peaking for Optimal Performance."

About our keynote speaker: Inigo Mujika is recognized around the sports world as an expert on the science of tapering and peaking for athletic performance. He has lectured at international conference and sports meetings around the world. He has published over 80 articles in peer review journals, a text and numerous chapters in other textbooks. He holds a PH.D. in Biology of Muscular Activity and Physical Activity from the University of The Basque Country. His main research interest is in the field of applied sport science including training methods and recovery from exercise, tapering, detraining, and overtraining. He is presently the Director of Physiology  and Training at USP Araba Sport Clinic and Associate Professor at the University of the Basque Country. He works as a Physiology Consultant for the Spanish Swimming Federation.

WHO CAN ATTEND: In addition to invited coaches, the conference is open to anyone with a current USATF membership (please join online if you are not a member) who registers online (please see details below).

 

REGISTRATION:

Registration for the PEP is $50 to attend. Coaches who are members of the COACHES REGISTRY by October 1, 2010, will have a free coupon code e-mailed to them. If you have questions about the coupon code, e-mail Terry Crawford. The free entry code must be used at the time of registration, coupons can not be applied to existing entries.

The participant is responsible to cover all costs associated with travel, housing, meals and any entertainment expenses. Note that this year’s PEP is being held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting to reduce travel costs for attendees of both events. Registration is open on a first-come first-serve basis until November 5, 2010 OR until the maximum of 250 participants has been reached, whichever comes first.

WHERE: The conference will be held at the Cavalier Hotel, Virginia Beach, Va. This is also the Meeting Headquarters Hotel for USATF Annual Meeting. All lectures and check-in for the PEP will be at the Cavalier Hotel. Please make reservations through our online system to obtain the special convention rate of  $80 plus tax for a single or double room. The USATF rate is available until November 1 or the reservations are full.
