When I first signed up for IM ten years ago, it wasn't to keep in touch with my friends about their love lives. Most of them, in fact, weren't even on IM when I was, because their jobs didn't allow it. Mine, however, insisted - something I found very amusing at the time.

The company that first introduced me to IM just had us sign up for plain ol' AOL accounts, but some businesses have special requirements - such as encryption, a feature that never fails to make me feel like I'm in a spy movie.

Some enterprise IM products offer web conferencing services that may be free or cheaper than what you're using now.
