From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
I'm not sure there's anything more horrifying than a toy recall. For one thing, it involves kids and danger, which is no one's favorite combination. For another, it seems like it should be impossible in this day and age. How could the toys we buy turn out to be dangerous?

Toy Recall: Toy Dart Gun Playsets Caused Two Deaths
The worst part of this latest recall? "The importer, Henry Gordy International Inc. of Plainfield, NJ has refused to recall the deadly toys, so Family Dollar Stores and the CPSC are working together to conduct the recall."

Readers Respond: Are You Angry About Toy Recalls?
I didn't add my response, because "yes" isn't really a useful answer, and I've been asked not to swear.

Recent Toy Recalls
Sometimes it's hard to tell if the toy you have is the toy in the recall announcement. That's because very few of us think in terms of official product names. 10 Steps Toward Safer Toys
The best tip on this list? Try to break the toy yourself. If it can withstand you, it can withstand your child. (Note: This is best done before you show the toy to your child. Otherwise, you'll wind up breaking psyches as well as toys.)
