Jack LaLanne 1914-2011, Interview and Podcast at Age 94

Posted: 24 Jan 2011 01:00 AM PST

Jack LaLanne died yesterday at the age of 96.

Before there was Arnold, or Charles Atlas, there was Jack LaLanne

He opened up the first modern health club in Oakland, California in 1936. It had a gym, juice bar and health food store.  And this was during the Great Depression!

Even on his TV show back in 1951, he was advocating good health and exercise.

"Exercise is king, nutrition is queen. Put them together and you got a kingdom"

Here is a video from YouTube, circa 1951.  Take a look at his sample meal plan.  60 years ago, he was preaching against refined sugars, fast foods, fatty foods, and process foods.  Of course, most of America didn't listen and look at them now.  Some have to pay for 2 seats on Southwest Airlines.

Interview with Jack LaLanne and Joe Sarti

My good friend and fellow colleague Joe Sarti had a radio show on Voice America.  One of the more popular broadcasts on his show included Jack LaLanne from the episode on September 10, 2008.

At the time of the show, Jack was 2 weeks shy of his 94th birthday.  How many geriatrics do you know still have the same spunk and energy as Jack?  While his beliefs may not suit everyone (like workout daily until muscular failure), he does preach many core fundamentals that everyone should adhere to.

Jack is on the second half of the show. On the first half, Raymond Francis is the guest. He is best known for his two books, Never Be Sick Again and Never Be Fat Again

Enjoy the podcast!

Here is that broadcast from Voice America Health & Wellness with Joe Sarti:

Presenter: Joe Sarti with Raymond Francis and Jack LaLanne
