Every year, I pack for vacation thusly: Fill bag with laundry, some of it clean. Attempt to close bag. Discover bag is too full. Take out half the contents and replace with books. Stuff in extra underwear and bank card. Flee to the beach.

Top Books to Read at the Beach
When choosing beach books, I examine each volume carefully and ask myself: "Will I grow or change as a person in any way from this experience?" If the answer is yes, I leave that book on the shelf and pick something with, oh, a ghost on the cover. Or else a picture of a woman trying on shoes.

You may not want your brain to turn into total mush, however, and for that, I admire you.

Top 10 Classics for the Beach
For example, I spent one summer working my way through Jane Austen. (But I'd be willing to bet you that a lot of chick lit authors have done the same thing.)

How to Buy New and Used Books for Less
The other consideration at the front of my mind: Saving money on all these throwaway reads.
