2011 Rome Golden Gala – Men’s 4×100 meter Relay

Posted: 29 May 2011 06:00 AM PDT

The 2011 Rome Golden Gala ended the same way at the upcoming 2012 London Summer Olympics.  That is, with the 4×100 meter on the program (instead of the traditional 4×400m relay)

The home team of Italy was favoured to win, but you can never count out the Canadians.  Or anyone for that matter.  In the 4×100 meter relay, Anything Goes!

You may recall the Ato Bolton recent tweet on 6 rules on how the USA should handle the 4×100 meter Relay.

Or Dennis Best's article on Exploiting your 4×100 meter Relay Personnel.

2011 Rome Golden Gala – Men’s 400 meters

You have to feel sorry for the 400 meters guys at the Golden Gala.

The Men's 400 meters was a non Samsung Diamond League event and was scheduled immediately after the Men's 100 meters (8 minutes to be exact).  The athletes were probably in the control room and maybe had access to a TV monitor to watch the race.  But if they did, then that's losing focus on your own race, which is bad.

As expected, there was a slight delay in the start of the 400m as Usain Bolt was doing a full victory lap.  I was glad to see no one left the stadium after the main event and you have to love European track for this.  In North America, the seats would have been empty.
