Who the heck is Monte Stratton?

Monte Stratton is a coach of 87 NCAA Division I All-Americans at TCU and UT Arlington.   He coached 24 X Conference Championships, had 24 X Conference Coach of the Year Honors, and most importantly , Stratton is the coach of Olympian Darvis "Doc " Patton.

The comprehensive instructional sprints training video DVD Monte Stratton: World Class Sprints & Relays (DVD) featuring Darvis "Doc" Patton, the 2004 and 2008 USA Olympian, Olympic Silver Medalist in the 4×100M Relay and 2007 World Outdoor 4×100M Gold Medalist.

The DVD is divided into 3 parts, the warm up, running technique, and block starts.  The duration of this video is 117 minutes.

WARM UP

The video shows how you can maximize your performance and prevent injuries using these 10 activities which combine technique drills, stretching and build up work.

RUNNING TECHNIQUE

In the video, you can reduce poor, speed-stealing sprint technique by implementing Stratton’s head-to-toe checklist for attaining and maintaining an ideal sprint posture.

Stratton delivers the best techniques for sprinting including proper foot and leg positioning for ground strikes and precise arm action to eliminate "breaking."

He also discusses stride frequency, stride length and back side mechanics and how each affects sprint speed.

BLOCK STARTS

A 30-minute A-Z guide for coaching the starts that includes:

  1. setting the block
  2. backing into the block
  3. proper foot positioning in the blocks
  4. setting the hands
  5. proper body alignment and balance
  6. all aspects of the "take your mark" and "set" positions
  7. proper mechanics for getting out of the blocks properly on the gun
  8. starting on the curve

Throughout each phase, Stratton offers invaluable coaching tips that will assist your sprinters in achieving the fastest start possible.

In addition, Darvis "Doc" Patton demonstrates five of the most common start errors with detailed analysis as to the negative effect each error has on the start.  A great tool to show your sprinters what not to do on a block start!

This video was produced in 2010.  Unlike some training videos which are 30-40 minutes in length, this video runs almost 2 hours long.
