Allan Wells Speedbag Video (with Michael Johnson) Posted: 02 Apr 2011 01:20 AM PDT As promised, here is the segment of Allan Wells being interviewed by Michael Johnson from the BBC Special, The World's Fastest Men. I talked about How to Train with the Speedbag or Speedball last month. For a guy in his late 50's, Allan Wells is still pretty good with the speedbag! You will have to fast forward to the 2:30 mark on the YouTube Video. In the mid-1980s, Allan Wells was the first sprinter to wear cycling shorts, which is the preferred choice for sprinters today. We've seen the evolution to Lycra and Spandex, then Dri-Fit, and now it's all about compression shorts! But I don't understand the purpose of the high knee leg kick drills in the video? His hips drop pretty low, and last time I checked, sprinting is all about the hips and getting hip height. Lee Evans used to do 400 meters of running high knee A's. Slowly, of course! If you have insight on this training drill, please comment below. Otherwise, I'll ask Jim Bradley myself. Copyright © 2011 by Speedendurance.com. All Rights Reserved. |
