Leonardo DiCaprio's Preproduction Movies

I am a enormous fan of Leonardo DiCaprio's films. He has amazed me in his development as an actor from his early beginnings and began to follow him in earnest when I saw him star in "This Boy's Life" and "What's Consuming Gilbert Grape", both released in 1993. Other films that are my favorites that DiCaprio starred in are "The Basketball Diaries", "Romeo and Juliet", "Titanic", "Catch Me if you Can", "The Aviator", and of course "Shutter Island".

He has shown the capability to develop such a wide range of characters that it makes me excited at the believed of what will come next, what gem of entertainment is on the horizon, so I decided to appear into Leonardo DiCaprio's preproduction movies.

The initial film that I came across is far more of a post production classification than a preproduction movie. "Inception", due to be released on July 16, 2010, just finished production and has already started releasing trailers. Written and directed by Christopher Nolan ("The Dark Knight" & "Insomnia") and with a solid supporting cast this looks to be an excellent adventure into the science fiction and mystery genres for DiCaprio.

In "Inception" one can enter the mind and dreams of other people through the use of an injection and plant or retrieve facts. The trailers I saw are definitely teasers giving little details on what to expect other than some great particular effects.

Extra Leonardo DiCaprio's preproduction movies incorporate "Beat the Reaper", "The Low Dweller", and "Prisoners". I also saw a list of over 25 films in development listed under DiCaprio's name at the IMDB web page but there is no final word as to if these films will even make it to preproduction or if DiCaprio will ultimately take on the films.

"Beat the Reaper" is based on a book written by Josh Bazell. DiCaprio will be playing a physician who is in the Witness Protection Program do to ties with the mob. Everything is going wonderful till a member of the mob is admitted into the hospital DiCaprio's character is working at and recognizes him. It definitely sounds like it will be an intriguing plot with a lot of opportunity for DiCaprio to create the character. I refuse to buy and read the book until soon after seeing the movie.

"The Low Dweller" is a dark thriller that has a man getting released from prison and shows his struggles to acclimate himself into society. The challenge is he is haunted from a figure that shows up from his past looking to settle a score he has against him. This is based on screenwriter Brad Ingelsby's initial production and there was still negotiations going on to discover a director at the time I write this write-up.

The "Prisoners" is written by Aaron Guzikowski. It is about a father, a modest town carpenter, who decides to take the law into his own hands and then seeks justice against those who kidnap his daughter and her best friend. This is absolutely a story line I have observed performed ahead of but not with an actor of the magnitude of DiCaprio.

It undoubtedly appears from the list of Leonardo DiCaprio's preproduction movies that we are entering a string of movies where DiCaprio plays characters in dark thrillers and mysteries. He has shown he definitely shines in this genre but I do hope in the future we will also see him return to other avenues as nicely to display his amazing talent and wide range of abilities.
